Summer Skincare Tips
Summer months can be the hardest on your skin. Between the heat, the changes in humidity, and the exposure to the sun, it seems like your skin can’t catch a break. At GLOW Surgical Arts, we have some tips we want to share to keep your skin healthy in the summer months.
How does skin get damaged in the summer?
Skin damage can be caused by lots of things, but sunlight is a culprit that becomes the most destructive in the summer. Sunlight can cause a multitude of issues such as dry skin, sunburn, actinic keratosis, and collagen destruction—all of which cause premature aging. Bumps, discoloration, flaking, and wrinkly skin are all side effects of sun damage. The heat can also change your skin's moisture and natural oil levels in the summer. Not to mention, many people forget to provide extra care to their skin during the summer. Instead, they stick with the same old routines that will not protect their skin.
How to protect your skin in the summertime
Protecting your skin in the summer months means four things.
First, you should make sure the cleanser you're using in the summer is compensating for the oil production changes you're experiencing.
Second, cut out the harder ingredients. Products with retinoids and alpha hydroxy acids can make your skin more sensitive in the sun.
Third, don’t forget lip care. Lips need protection and moisture during the summer, just like the rest of your skin.
Lastly, SPF protection is key. In fact, this is the most important step. You can find UV ray protection chapsticks, BB creams, moisturizers, and lotions if you don't want to apply a heavy sunblock every day, but we can't stress enough how crucial this is. If you don't follow any of these steps, your skin will not maintain its healthy beautiful glow.
Undoing skin damage
By the time you are seeing the damage that unprotected skin suffers during the summer, it's too late. You don’t know how you did it, but it needs to be fixed. Don't worry. GLOW Surgical Arts and Medical Spa offers an innovate and unique selection of non-invasive treatments. Our options for treating sun-damaged, prematurely aged, discolored or rough textured skin without surgery include:
