Enhancing Your Breasts with Fat

Enhancing Your Breasts with FatWant larger, more shapely breasts without implants? Some women choose to enhance their breasts using their own body fat instead of a saline or silicone implant. This option isn't for everyone as you can only achieve a small increase in cup size, but the results look and feel entirely natural.

How Is Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Done?

The process is similar to the autologous fat transfer to the buttocks. Fat is gently harvested from your hips, thighs or abdomen using liposuction. The fat is then injected into the breast tissue where it creates a larger, fuller breast contour. There are no incisions, and your breasts will feel completely natural.

A series of small injections are used to introduce the purified fat to all areas of your breasts. Using multiple injections, your cosmetic surgeon can create an entirely natural looking breast shape. You don't have that amount of control with an implant, which can't be manipulated once placed under the breast tissue.

Is It Long-Lasting?

You can expect some fat cells to die and be reabsorbed by your body tissue. However, most cells will survive the transfer and stay in your breasts for the long-term. Over time, you may need to have additional fat injections to perfect the appearance of your breasts, or if you undergo significant weight loss.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Fat Transfer To The Breasts?

Women who want to only slightly increase their breast size are good candidates for fat transfer procedures. If you want to dramatically increase your cup size, saline or silicone implants are better options.

Other candidates include women who have had a mastectomy or lumpectomy. Fat transfers are often used in breast reconstruction surgeries following cancer treatment. Women with genetic disorders such as tuberous breast or Poland Syndrome may also opt for fat transfers to correct the shape of their breasts or increase the size of underdeveloped breasts.

Other Uses For Fat Transfer To Breasts

Fat grafting can be combined with breast implants for a customized look. The technique is great for women who want to correct the appearance of:

  • Breast asymmetries,
  • Cleavage lines,
  • Constricted breasts,
  • Mild sagging.

Fat transfer can also be helpful for women who need to expand their chest coverage before getting implants. The injected fat creates additional space for the implants so the contour looks more natural.
