Breast Lift After Breastfeeding

Motherhood can change your body in several ways, especially if you are breastfeeding your new baby. Nursing can alter the appearance of your breasts in dramatic fashion; breasts that were firm and perky are left sagging. This can occur from nursing, but also can be the result of the hormonal changes during pregnancy, in combination with the increase and decrease in weight that occurs. To regain your pre-pregnancy bust, an expert cosmetic surgeon, like Dr. Renee Marshall or Dr. Paul Gorman at GLOW Surgical Arts can perform a breast lift.

A breast lift is becoming one of the most popular procedures in cosmetic surgery.

Statistics released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show that the number of breast lifts that is performed has increased by 70 percent since 2000—twice as fast as the number of breast implant procedures.

Clinically known as mastopexy, a breast lift procedure elevates the breasts through the removal of excess skin and by tightening the surrounding tissue.

Drs. Gorman and Marshall can perform any one of the following types of breast lift procedures:

Crescent lift – Your Redwood City cosmetic surgeon removes a crescent-shaped piece of tissue above the areola, restructuring the tissue and creating a minor lift effect.

Peri-areolar lift – One of the least invasive options in breast lifts, a doughnut-shaped piece of tissue is removed around the areola border, producing a flatter, rounder, and shapely breast.

Keyhole lift – Performed by making straight incisions under the areolae to the mammary folds, also known as the crease. This type of breast lift is used to correct intermediate sagging.

Anchor lift – This is a full mastopexy and the most common type of breast lift that is performed. This procedure does involve repositioning of the nipple. Larger incisions are required with this procedure, but when performed by a well-trained and experienced cosmetic surgeon, the appearance of severely sagging breasts can be dramatically improved.

Breast lifts in Redwood City

Are you a woman who has sagging breasts? Do you want to improve your breast shape? In either case, a breast lift can help you achieve your aesthetic goals. Breast lifts should only be performed on women who are healthy and do not have underlying breast disease. You also should be willing to have healed incisions on your breasts following the procedure and, ideally, you do not plan to have any more children.

We also can perform a breast lift in combination with a breast augmentation to reach the preferred results. In these cases, you should anticipate that the surgery will take more time to complete.

At GLOW Surgical Arts, we believe that no two of our patients are alike. Each of our patients receives a personalized treatment plan and, before beginning any cosmetic work, we sit down for an individual consultation to discuss your enhancement goals and your health history.
