Non-surgical cosmetic trends for 2020

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, nearly 17.7 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the U.S. in 2018—the most ever. There is no denying the rise in cosmetic surgery popularity, but 89 percent of cosmetic procedures did not involve actual surgery. That adds up to 15.9 million minimally invasive, non-surgical procedures—an increase of 228 percent since 2000 according to the ASPS. This speaks to the growing popularity of procedures that improve your appearance and reduce the signs of aging without the risk and recovery time involved with surgery. What are the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures? Will they stay popular? The team at GLOW Surgical Arts wants to answer that question. Drs. Paul Gorman and Renee Marshall put together these predictions for the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures in 2020.

What do people want when it comes to cosmetic procedures?

Our cosmetic surgeons in Redwood City know the importance of staying up to date and current with the latest medical advancements. We also understand that knowing what modern aesthetic qualities are popular will help dictate the most current trends for cosmetic surgeons and med spas alike. Looking back, 2018 was considered the year of the body with many procedures aimed at subtle body changes that enhanced the natural appearance.

Looking ahead to 2020, we believe keeping appearances natural is going to be the trend of choice. People want to enhance their natural physical features, look more youthful, and naturally radiant—but do so subtly, without it being obvious they had cosmetic work done. Today, people have realized that minor changes actually can go a long way toward improving appearance. That's why, in 2018, non-surgical procedures were much more popular than surgeries. The five most popular minimally invasive procedures in 2019 were:

  1. Botox
  2. Soft Tissue Dermal Fillers (such as Juvederm and Restylane)
  3. Chemical Peels
  4. Laser Hair Removal
  5. Microdermabrasion

Our predictions for 2020

While the team at GLOW Surgical Arts is skilled and experienced to perform a host of different surgeries to improve appearance, there are many benefits to having minimally invasive cosmetic treatments also. There’s less risk and little to no downtime. You're able to resume your normal day-to-day activities more quickly with more natural-looking changes. Dr. Paul Gorman and Dr. Renee Marshall predict the most popular procedures will be:

  1. Botox
  2. Non-Ablative Skin Resurfacing
  3. Microdermabrasion
  4. Laser Skin Treatments
  5. Dermal fillers

At GLOW Surgical Arts we are proud to offer these procedures and many more through our medical spa.

Injectables: We offer two types of injectables: dermal fillers and Botox. Both can be used to improve sagging skin, facial volume loss, wrinkles, crow's feet, frown or smile lines, and thin lips.

Laser treatments: Using cutting-edge laser technology enables our team of cosmetic professionals to improve fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead, as well as under or around the eyes and other parts of the face. Our non-ablative techniques offer enhanced results with reasonable recovery periods. Laser treatments can also address acne scars, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation.

Micro-resurfacing with infusion: Superior to traditional microdermabrasion, our micro-resurfacing procedure evenly exfoliates the superficial upper layers of the skin to reveal smooth, revitalized, vibrant skin. Dermasweep MD incorporates a dry exfoliation, followed by a dermal infusion to target specific conditions such as discoloration, congestion, fine lines, dehydration, and large pores.

Microneedling: Also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT, microneedling can be performed solely or in combination with the addition of PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). These treatments are a versatile clinical procedure that can be used to correct issues such as acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, large pores, and stretch marks. Microneedling restores radiance to lackluster-looking skin and, when combined with PRP, can be used to treat thinning hair in both men and women, as well as to deliver intense nourishment to strengthen the hair.

Facial Peels: We offer a variety of chemical peels, most of which can be performed in under 30 minutes. Our chemical peels rejuvenate the face by effectively improving skin discoloration, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, shrinking pores, softening rough skin and reducing the prominence of scars.
