How an Eyelift Can Make You Look Younger

Having eyelid surgery can be anti-aging. A statement so simple is usually simple because nothing else needs to be stated, but many people are entirely unaware that eyelid surgery could give them a more youthful appearance. Next time you look in the mirror, don't stare at your eyes and think they look tired or drooping. GLOW Surgical Arts in Redwood City wants to help you understand how our cosmetic surgeons, Dr. Paul Gorman and Dr. Renee Marshall, can make you appear more youthful by performing an eyelift.

What is eyelid surgery?

Blepharoplasty is the technical term for the procedure more commonly called eyelid surgery or an eyelift.  During this procedure, you can have excess skin or fat removed from the area around the eye. Whether you want to have an eyelift done on your lower lid, upper lid, or both lids, the end result will be a more youthful and rested appearance. Our cosmetic surgeons at GLOW Surgical Arts are here to help you make the best decisions for your cosmetic goals.

How do I know if it's what I'm looking for?

If you're looking for a more youthful and less exhausted appearance, so people don't constantly ask “Are you OK?”, then this is probably the procedure for you. The best indications that you are a good candidate for this surgery include droopy lower eyelids, dark circles, under-eye bags, wrinkles around or on the eyes, excess skin around the eyes, puffy eyes, and loosened eyelid skin. Suffering from any combination of these is common and our cosmetic surgeons, Dr. Paul Gorman and Dr. Renee Marshall will gladly help you decide what you would like to have done.

However, an eyelift is not the recommended treatment to resolve the appearance of fine wrinkles around the eyes (often called crow's feet), or excess skin on the upper eyelid due to descending eyebrows. For crow's feet, you may want to consider instead a non-surgical procedure such as a chemical peel, Botox injections, or even a laser resurfacing treatment. You also may need to consider a brow lift to correct the appearance of excess skin on the upper eyelid. Your cosmetic surgeon in Redwood City will determine the best procedure for you, based on your own needs and desires.
