Lip Augmentation: Fat, Juvederm, Volbella

Girl in fieldAs you get older, your lips show it. They lose volume and fullness, and may even look drawn or tight. There's no over-the-counter remedy that can improve the look of your lips. You'll need a little more help to get your pout back in business. Check out these simple, non-invasive ways to achieve a youthful, healthy smile!

These are also great options if you're not satisfied with the look of your lips. Maybe you find them too thin, or just want a little more volume. Enhancing your lips with a non-invasive treatment is a great way to build your confidence.

Fat Transfer

This procedure takes fat from elsewhere in your body -- usually your hips or abdomen -- and uses it to plump up your lips. Once removed, the fat is purified and is then iinjected into your lips using a tiny needle. It's easy and completely natural. Best of all, fat transfer is very long lasting!

Juvederm

Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid filler. The product attracts water molecules, thus plumping up your lips in the process. There are several varieties of Juvederm, and each lasts for about a year, depending on the patient's metabolism. For lips, Juvederm Ultra XC is usually used, as it is specially formulated to treat this area.

Volbella

Volbella is actually a newer product manufactured by Allergan, the company that makes Juvederm. It's also a hyaluronic acid dermal filler that's best for the fine, thin lines that surround the mouth. In fact, Volbella is the first lip augmentation filler that is approved by the FDA to address perioral lines, or smoker’s lines, around the mouth. Volbella is a very smooth filler, and therefore creates a natural-looking result. Like Juvederm, Volbella usually lasts about a year before it wears off.

All of these treatments comes with potential side effects. The most common is bruising around the injections, redness, swelling and some slight itching. None of the side effects are long lasting and you won't have to miss any time from work following treatment.
