Surgery is often the best solution for people who have not been able to get rid of this skin by other means. If you don't have a lot of excess skin, you may assume a tummy tuck isn't the right option for you. In reality, a mini tummy tuck or partial abdominoplasty may be the right course of action to get your body ready for the beach.
A mini tummy tuck results in a more sculpted appearance of the lower abdomen by improving minor pouching and sagging. It removes fat and tightens the muscles below the belly button. The skin between the belly button and pubic mound is also pulled down and tightened during the procedure. Some stretch marks can be addressed but a mini tummy tuck isn't the best option for eliminating stretch marks.
A mini tummy tuck is less invasive than a full abdominoplasty, but it may not offer the dramatic results you seek. Even so, scarring with a mini tummy tuck is limited to the pubic area and is usually able to be covered by a swim suit. A full tummy tuck usually results in a hip-to-hip scar just above the pubic area as well as scarring around the naval.
The full tummy tuck is the best option if you have loose skin both above and below your belly button. It's also the better option for dealing with stretch marks.
A mini tummy tuck will take anywhere from one to three hours in the operating room. You may also choose to combine it with other cosmetic procedures like liposuction or arm and breast lifts.
You should plan to be off work for at least a week following surgery, and you'll need to wear a compression garment for several weeks while your body heals. Most patients aren't able to participate in strenuous activities for at least a month.
