Want a curvier, more feminine derriere? An autologous fat transfer is a safe, highly effective way to get a perky, heart-shaped backside.
This body contouring treatment has become very popular among women who have trouble gaining weight in their hindquarters due to genetics, age or an athletic lifestyle. It’s often called a Brazilian Butt Lift, and it helps balance the body’s appearance, provide shape and definition and improve symmetry.
The procedure is great for women whose:
Autologous fat transfer is essentially two procedures in one. First, unwanted fat is harvested from your hips, thighs or abdomen using liposuction. Next, the harvested fat is processed to enhance its purity. Finally, the concentrated fat is injected into the areas targeted for treatment, leaving the buttocks more shapely and full.
Since the procedure uses your body’s own fat, there’s little risk of allergic reaction. Scarring is minimal since the procedure isn’t as invasive as other surgical options. Plus, the recovery time is much shorter than with buttock implant surgery. You should be able to resume normal activities within about a week.
The fat transfer process does involve a surgical procedure, and tumescent anesthesia with or without IV sedation will be used. Therefore, candidates must be in relatively good health and not suffer from a medical condition that could make the surgery risky.
While surgical candidates shouldn’t be more than 35 pounds overweight, you should have enough excess fat available to augment the buttocks. In most procedures, six to eight pounds of fat is harvested and around two pounds of purified fat is reinjected into the buttocks.
Ideal candidates wear a dress size of around six to eight. Very slender women who wear a dress size of zero to four might need to gain weight before having a fat transfer procedure performed. Or, buttock implants might be a better option for some very petite women.
