Get Rid Of Back Fat

Written by GLOW Surgical Arts | September 8, 2015

We all know the most common “problem areas” when it comes to excess fat: the belly, thighs, and hips. But, another area that’s not talked about as much -- but can be just as detrimental to your self-image -- is back fat.

Back fat that won’t budge

Sometimes called bra rolls, excess fat below the bra strap and around the armpit area can be embarrassing and difficult to hide in clothes. It tends to get worse after pregnancy and weight loss, as changes in the breasts can cause any fat that wasn’t noticeable before to settle into these areas. If you want to wear a push-up bra to enhance your appearance, this can often make back fat more noticeable, creating quite a conundrum for women who are trying to look their best.

Doing exercises to trim and tone your upper body will give you more muscle tone, but unfortunately it won't eliminate back fat completely. This is the case with almost any “spot reduction” effort -- including those special exercises you see on TV. In some cases, excess fat holds on to certain spots, regardless of any muscle we build beneath it.

Addressing back fat with SmartLipo

Back fat is actually very successfully treated with liposuction. Liposuction is typically done using small incisions, and, if SmartlipoTM technology is used, you can expect several advantages over traditional liposuction, including tighter skin with less bruising and swelling.

Considering other procedures

Because each body is unique, your cosmetic surgeon will talk with you about how the procedure will work best for you. Some people may benefit from another procedure paired with the back lipo, such as a breast augmentation or breast lift. Or, you may also choose to have liposuction on your abdomen too, to slim you from the front and back. Although it’s not necessary to do these extra procedures, you may find that having both done will better balance out your figure and really give you that “wow” body you’ve been craving.

Making your decision

Before you decide to move forward with liposuction, talk with the cosmetic surgeon about your needs and expectations. Ask to see before and after photos of liposuction patients -- and any other procedures you’re considering. Just like you wouldn’t hire an interior designer without first looking at his or her work, this should be the case with a cosmetic surgeon too. The skill and expertise of your surgeon has a lot to do with your final results, so choose a qualified and experienced cosmetic surgeon to help you look and feel your best.
