Tummy Tuck Surgery: What Does A Tummy Tuck Entail?

Written by GLOW Surgical Arts | October 15, 2015

The following is an excerpt from our new e-book, A patient’s guide to tummy tuck surgery.

What does a tummy tuck entail?

When you choose an experienced cosmetic surgeon for tummy tuck surgery, you are taking the first step to ensure a remarkable result. Tummy tucks can be done under general anesthesia, or they may be done with newer, less invasive options.

At GLOW Surgical Arts, our tummy tuck patients receive all the benefits of a traditional tummy tuck with a quicker recovery. Our procedure usually involves several steps, including:

  • Using local anesthesia so you can recover quickly
  • Making a horizontal incision low on the abdomen to minimize any visibility (usually between the hip bones)
  • Repairing and/or tightening the underlying muscles
  • Removing excess skin
  • Stitching your tightened skin together

A tummy tuck does not have to include liposuction, but this step may be added if needed. You and your surgeon will discuss this option in advance and determine the treatment plan that is best for your needs. Liposuction can be helpful for tummy tuck patients who have some excess fat that needs to be removed in order to achieve the most desirable results. Having this performed at the same time as your tummy tuck surgery means you’ll have only one incision, and no additional surgeries are required.

A GLOW tummy tuck is done on an outpatient basis, allowing you to go home the same day. Then, your recovery can begin as you begin to see your new, beautiful body take shape.
