The following is an excerpt from our new e-book, A patient’s guide to tummy tuck surgery.
When you’re thinking about a tummy tuck, you probably want to know how it will fit into your life and if you will be able to get back to the things you enjoy as quickly as possible. Tummy tucks can be performed using different methods, but a GLOW tummy tuck involves the use of local anesthetic to get you back on your feet sooner and to avoid some of the common complications of general anesthesia. Your surgeon will also make the smallest incision possible to give you the desired result.
Depending on your individual case, your surgeon may be able to perform the tummy tuck using a smaller incision (“mini” tummy tuck) if that’s all you need. This involves less recovery time and activity restriction.
If your skin is very elastic and firm, but you simply have some excess fat in the abdomen, your surgeon may recommend just liposuction in your case. However, liposuction will not correct excess skin or muscles that are stretched out. Sometimes it can be difficult to tell which procedure you need to get the look you want. In this case, a pre-surgery consultation can help you decide what procedure best meets your needs.
