What Can Be Done About Acne Scars?

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions, affecting millions of people. Once considered to be a teenage problem, we now know it affects men and women of nearly any age.

Although acne doesn’t cause any serious health problems, the emotional toll it takes on an individual can have a lifelong impact. Not only does it cause embarrassment and make a person feel self-conscious, but it can leave behind considerable scarring that is difficult to conceal with makeup. People who want to celebrate the clearing of their blemishes are often distraught when they discover that this disease has left behind scarred, damaged skin.

Until recently, effective treatments for these scars were lacking. The depressed scars, in particular, can be difficult to erase. But with today’s minimally-invasive skin treatments performed by a skilled cosmetic surgeon, many people can say goodbye to acne scars and finally see a renewed, clear face in the mirror.

  • Microneedling: This advanced therapy offers a number of benefits for acne scars and other imperfections. Also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), microneedling stimulates the skin to produce more collagen and elastin, giving it a smoother, more plumped appearance. In addition, it promotes healthy blood flow to the skin. At GLOW Surgical Arts, we use the innovative COSMOPen®, which offers outstanding skin renewal without significant downtime, expense, or side effects. Most patients are able to return to normal activity immediately after treatment, and results become visible within just one to two sessions. Often, when used in conjunction with PRP therapy, microneedling can quickly reduce scarring and wrinkles for smoother, younger-looking skin.
  • Laser treatments: Laser resurfacing and laser skin rejuvenation are excellent options for acne-scarred skin. Laser resurfacing removes the top layers of skin, allowing the body to naturally produce new, smoother skin. Laser and Intense Pulse Light (IPL) therapies can help smooth scars and lessen their appearance. Because there are different therapies available, you’ll need to talk with a cosmetic surgeon about the best treatment for your individual needs.
  • Plasma-rich platelets (PRP): You may have heard about these treatments before (blood facial or “vampire” facial), but celebrity-approved PRP treatments are a huge step toward finding the fountain of youth. It helps with facial rejuvenation, treatment of acne scars, and treatment of stretch marks. GLOW Surgical Arts is now offering PRP treatments to our patients — simply give us a call or stop by our office to learn more.

If you’ve struggled with acne scars, whether it’s just a few or many, you deserve to have smoother, more attractive skin again.
