Are You Ready For A Mommy Makeover?

It’s not uncommon for moms to be unhappy with their bodies after having children. Changes that occur in pregnancy can significantly alter a woman's body. Abdominal skin and muscles are stretched in ways that they aren’t easily reversed, and a new layer of protective fat covers the breasts, abdomen, hips and thighs.

So you eat healthy, you exercise, and do whatever else you can to get your body back. Many women are able to return to their pre-pregnancy weight after some time, but even after losing the baby weight, you may still find yourself with loose skin around the belly, or breasts that just aren’t as perky as they used to be.

Enter the mommy makeover

Many women are finding that cosmetic surgery can pick up where diet and exercise leave off, helping restore the appearance they had prior to pregnancy. The mommy makeover is a set of cosmetic procedures that aim to restore a more youthful, proportioned figure.

The mommy makeover is tailored to each woman's specific needs, but typically includes the following:

  • Breast lift and/or augmentation to restore breast volume that may have been lost during pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Tummy tuck to remove loose skin, tighten muscles and remove stubborn belly fat

Who should get a mommy makeover?

Women who are finished having children, follow a healthy lifestyle of exercise and good nutrition, and have reached their goal weight are the best candidates for a mommy makeover.

Women who are still trying to lose weight are usually not good candidates for mommy makeovers. Cosmetic surgery is not intended as a means of losing weight, but rather as an enhancement to the results you have already achieved. For the best results, you should be at or near your goal weight and follow healthy lifestyle habits that will help you maintain your new shape.

The importance of recovery time

Another important aspect of the mommy makeover is the recovery period involved. Moms are often on the go as they care for their families, but they will need help for several weeks after surgery. Lifting small children, carrying groceries, driving, and cleaning house too soon can impede the healing process or cause infection. Make sure you have someone who can help you take care of the household after your procedure, and arrange for the time off work. Talk to your doctor about how much time you can expect to devote to your recovery period.

If you would like to get your pre-pregnancy body back, GLOW Surgical Arts would be happy to meet with you to talk about your options and starting the process toward a mommy makeover. Consultations are always free and are focused on your individual wants and needs.
