Hand Rejuvenation - Don't Let Your Hands Give Away Your Age!
Our bodies seemingly do everything they can to advertise to anyone looking that we are aging. Sometimes it might feel like you are walking around with a sign on your forehead telling everybody just exactly what your age is. Might as well, right? The crow’s feet around your eyes are shouting it. The wrinkles in your neck are screaming it. The older we get, the more our bodies give the fact that we’re aging away. The giveaways aren’t just found in our faces, either. In fact, there’s an argument to be made for the hands being the biggest culprit in telling the world, “I’m getting old!” There are also several cosmetic procedure options nowadays to combat signs of aging in the hands. Even if you’ve already started to notice your hands trying their best to let everyone and anyone know you’re getting older, hand rejuvenation can go a long way toward quieting that giveaway.
You’ve got several options to choose from, should you opt to reverse some of the signs of aging in your hands:
Laser resurfacing -- At our GLOW Surgical Arts offices in Redwood City, we offer two different types of laser hand rejuvenation. Intense Pulse Light (IPL) can produce fantastic results after just a few treatments if you’re targeting brown spots, uneven skin tone, sun damage, or general redness. SmartSkin CO2 treatments are designed to let your body’s natural healing process work its magic as your hands replace the removed cells with fresh, growing, healthy skin. This micro-ablative laser skin renewal treatment primarily targets water. Laser energy is delivered to the deeper, collagen bearing tissues of your hands and its interaction with water in the skin ultimately leads to collagen rejuvenation and skin tightening. Both laser treatments can take several years off of your hands’ appearance.
Injections -- “Fat grafting” is an increasingly popular technique to battle signs of aging in the hands. Unwanted fat is harvested from somewhere else on the body and re-injected into the hands, resulting in added volume and rejuvenation of the skin’s appearance. Your own fat provides a natural filler. Your GLOW cosmetic surgeon will utilize gentle liposuction to first harvest the fat from elsewhere on your body (somewhere that has an excess amount, anyway), and then carefully re-inject the processed fat into targeted areas on the hands. Alternatively, we also have two types of dermal fillers available to provide the same function as your own fat would in a fat transfer. JUVÉDERM (a smooth gel filler) and RADIESSE (hyaluronic acid) fillers are injected into targeted areas in the hands, just like your own fat cells would be in a fat transfer, and similarly result in added volume and generally younger looking hands. Typically, dermal filler hand rejuvenation results will last for up to 10 months or longer, while fat transfer results will last much longer.
Chemical peels and skin creams -- Topical solutions are always available as well. Finding the right products to aid you with your goal of hand rejuvenation can be a challenge, of course. To that end, we’re proud at GLOW to be able to offer what we consider the best line of skincare products on the market: Image SkinCare. You can work with one of our GLOW cosmetic surgeons to fully customize a line of products for you, including products from Image’s Ageless line, which use glycolic acid to resurface dead skin cells to reveal fresh, glowing skin. We’re also happy to help you come up with an Image Skincare routine to use after a fat transfer, dermal filler procedure, or laser treatment.
Unfortunately, our hands are no different from any other part of our body when it comes to aging. They show it! Our hands lose volume, fat, and elasticity as we get older, and the result is an obvious giveaway in their appearance. The only silver lining is that because you’re alive now, in 2014, getting older no longer means you simply need to accept and embrace age’s effect on your body’s appearance. Your hands don’t have to look every bit your age. On the contrary, you can turn your hands into advertisements to the world that your age is several years younger than whatever your driver’s license says. Hand rejuvenation is real, the procedures are relatively fast, and the results are immediate and long-lasting. There is absolutely a perfect plan of attack for you and your hands, and the first step towards it is a free, no-obligation consultation with a GLOW Surgical Arts cosmetic surgeon.
