Getting That Perfect Nose - No Surgery Required!

Written by GLOW Surgical Arts | February 20, 2014

Most of us have at least one feature we would change if given the chance. The mirror can quickly turn into an unwelcome reminder of this desire, especially if that feature happens to be on your face. For many of us, our nose is on the top of the "if I could only change one thing about my face" list If nose tops your list, the term “nose job” is undoubtedly one you’ve heard and maybe even looked into. That kind of surgical procedure can be daunting to contemplate for some and in the past meant a permanent alteration of your nose’s appearance. They key words are “in the past.” Today¸ it isn’t a requirement that you go under the knife in order to change the way your nose looks. Non-surgical rhinoplasty is now a viable and popular option.

At first blush, the idea of a non-surgical nose job may not make sense. Instead of surgery, non-surgical rhinoplasty involves injecting dermal filler into the face. The idea is to create smoother lines in the nose and improve its overall appearance from base to tip. Since material is being added, not taken away, things are technically getting bigger. Yet, the fine-tuned appearance can work to make the nose appear smaller. The idea seems counterintuitive, but the important part is that the result positively impacts the nose’s appearance. By strategically adding volume to specific areas of the nose, your GLOW Surgical Arts cosmetic surgeon will be able to dramatically change the way your nose looks by straightening lines and smoothing out any visual irregularities. And it can all be done without the use of any sort of invasive surgery.

It works because of how the nose’s appearance affects how we perceive our features. The nose is the anchor-feature of the face. When it’s aesthetically proportionate, it helps balance our other features and everything automatically becomes more pleasing to the eye. Non-surgical rhinoplasty can be used to accomplish a wide range of aesthetic tweaks (it’s typically not an option when the goal is to correct functional problems with the nose), including augmenting a flat nasal bridge, adding projection of the nasal tip, subtly reducing nostril size, and more. Not only is there no invasive surgery involved, but the injections take only minutes, and the results are immediate. Plus, while there could be some swelling post-procedure, it is typically minor. Usually, patients are able to return immediately to normal activities. There’s no downtime for recuperation. You’re even free to immediately resume whatever skin care routine you adhere to the same day as the procedure

There are, however, some important differences between surgical and non-surgical rhinoplasty to be aware of. Non-surgical rhinoplasty is not permanent. The results can last for several months (10 or sometimes more), but that time frame will vary from individual to individual. Consequently, supplemental touch-up treatments may be needed to achieve and maintain optimal results. Of course, this isn’t necessarily a negative. Surgical rhinoplasty is permanent, which can obviously be problematic if the results aren’t satisfactory. Finally, as with other aesthetic procedures, possible complications always include things like infection, bruising, and general discomfort. All of these risks are rare and temporary.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a relatively new option, and as always, we’re happy to answer any questions you might have about the procedure during a free, no-obligation consultation. It is an option, though, and it’s one that allows you to alter your nose’s appearance for the better without ever going through any sort of invasive surgery. On the contrary, non-surgical rhinoplasty is quick, relatively inexpensive, and features immediate results. If your nose happens to be on the list, however short of long that list might be, of features you’d change if you could, know that surgery is no longer required!
