Body Sculpting After Weight Loss: The Basics
It's always easier to not do something. Staying on the couch and not getting to the gym is easy. Ordering a pizza and not throwing together a salad is easy. Excuses, too, are easy. For example, knowing that theres a possibility that even if you were to lose a bunch of weight, you might be left with unsightly loose and saggy skin is a readymade excuse to just not lose the weight. Whats the point? Who wants to lose weight and still be stuck with a body that isnt fun to see in the mirror? That particular excuse, however, doesnt really fly anymore. Not with body sculpting procedures now available.
We'll be offering and ongoing discussion of body sculpting in this space, and well start off by going over the basics. Hypothetically speaking, then, youve already lost the weight. A lot of it. It doesnt matter how you lost the weight. Diet and exercise are always a great way to achieve weight loss and generally better health. For some, though, bariatric surgery might be necessary. However you did it, you did it.massive weight loss The weight has been trimmed. And yet, despite the massive weight loss, your body image isnt all that improved because of the loose skin that has stubbornly stuck around. The weights gone, but the loose, saggy skin remains and its incredibly unpleasant both physically and visually. To oversimplify this phenomenon: the more of a percentage of your body weight youre losing, the more likely it is youll be left with some sagging skin.
There are other factors in play, too. Sun damage, smoking, age, genetics, a history of yo-yo dieting and the presence stretch marks all play a role in skin resiliency. None of that will seem to matter too much, of course, if you are staring at the loose skin in the mirror after losing a lot of weight. A body sculpting procedure doesnt have to necessarily be the first treatment you turn to. You can step up the workout routine even more. You can try yoga. You can try tweaking your diet. There are body wraps that might help. Plenty of options. Still, its possible that your skin will simply prove too resilient. Its sticking around, sagging and loose and making you wonder why you bothered to lose the weight in the first place.
If you were to find yourself in this scenario, theres still good news. It is this precise scenario where a body sculpting procedure works best. As long as your weight has stabilized, and as long as youre in otherwise relatively good health, body sculpting is an option and it will absolutely help you finally get rid of that loose and saggy skin. With realistic expectations and an honest consultation with your cosmetic surgeon, a body sculpting procedure could prove to be the finishing touch to your weight loss and be whats needed to leave you feeling satisfied with the entire process. Weight loss, certainly massive weight loss, should be something that leaves you feeling good. Still, the reality is that if youre losing a lot of weight, you had a lot of weight to lose! Once that skin has stretched, it doesnt un-stretch just because you lose the weight. A body sculpting cosmetic procedure just helps you clear that last hurdle (loose, saggy skin) and, hopefully, leaves you feeling that the weight loss was worth it.
How does a body sculpting procedure actually work? Well cover it in detail in the next installment of this discussion. For now, just know that the loose, saggy skin excuse is no longer valid! At GLOW Surgical Arts, we want you to feel good about the way you look, especially after succeeding in losing a large amount of weight, and thats what body sculpting allows us to help you do.
